Teaching abroad can be one of the simplest ways to move to another country, earn an income, and start a new chapter. In this episode of the Move Abroad podcast, I talk with Harrison Fowler, founder and CEO of RVF International—a company that helps people teach English in Spain through a structured and supportive relocation program.
Harrison shares his own story of moving abroad for a gap year, the challenges he experienced in existing programs, and how that inspired him to launch RVF in 2017. We also talk through common misconceptions, challenges, and what daily life in Spain looks like for teachers in the program.
In the episode, Harrison shares a few stories of people who moved abroad through RVF and ended up staying far longer than planned. Some fell in love with Spain, others built international careers, and some gained confidence to move to even more countries afterward.
Teaching English becomes a launching pad—not just a job.
After college, Harrison moved to Madrid to teach English in a public school. The experience changed his life—but it wasn’t without problems. He found that the process of moving abroad was full of bureaucracy and unclear processes.
That frustration led him to create RVF International—a company designed to give others the experience he wished he’d had.
When you join the program, you’re placed in a public school as a language assistant. You’ll typically work 12–16 hours per week, helping students improve their conversational English and supporting classroom teachers.
The role is designed to be manageable, leaving time for travel, learning Spanish, or exploring Spain’s different regions. You’re paid each month, and the cost of living in most Spanish cities is low enough to live comfortably on your stipend.
You do not need to commit to a teaching career. This is more about cultural exchange, international experience, and using teaching as a vehicle to live abroad.
Harrison shares that many people assume:
RVF International exists to challenge these ideas and make moving abroad more accessible to people without prior experience or local connections.
If you’re considering moving abroad and want a clear, supported path, teaching in Spain might be the right move.
RVF International is currently accepting applications for upcoming school years. If you are considering teaching abroad in Spain, you can definitely make it happen on your own! But if you want support, then RVF International could be a good program to look into. The process is straightforward, and they handle all the steps you might otherwise struggle to figure out on your own.
RVF International helps recent graduates and young professionals move to Spain to teach English in schools. The company offers full support including:
You don’t need teaching experience or Spanish fluency to join. Most participants are in their 20s and looking for a structured, low-risk way to live abroad.
