Take the 2-min quiz to find out which European city abroad is the best match for you!
If you’ve ever imagined what your dreamy European life would actually look like? Would it shape up to look how you imagine, or would it not live up to your expectations? After spending over five years in Europe, I’ve experienced first-hand what it feels like to wake up in a centuries-old city, stroll through cobblestone streets, and take spontaneous weekend trips across borders. Let’s explore what your European dream life could look like and what it actually feels like when you’re living it.
Your Morning Routine Feels Like a Movie Scene
Your morning begins with a leisurely stroll to your local café where the barista already knows your order. There are so many coffee shops around, but I usually take a five-minute walk to one by the river. I sip my coffee while watching rowers glide by or seeing moms walk their babies along the path. On weekends, I’m greeted by a crepe stand as I watch locals take part in rowing and running clubs.
You can also grab freshly baked bread from the local bakery instead of pre-packaged loaves from grocery stores. On Sundays, I walk just 30 seconds to the bakery for a coffee and a croissant. The peaceful, quiet moments of these routines are some of the best parts of living here.
Your City Is a Museum Without Walls
Living in Europe means walking past centuries-old statues, fountains, and Roman ruins on your way to work. Instead of passing strip malls, you could be walking past a 500-year-old building housing a market to pick up your groceries. There are constant reminders of history all around, making everyday life feel magical.
On Sundays, I often visit The Wallace Collection in London, a free museum housed in an 18th-century home. I grab a scone with clotted cream in the café, then stroll through the historic rooms, soaking in the beauty and art. It’s not just a day out; it’s part of what living in Europe feels like.
Hop on a Train & Be in a New Country for Lunch
Imagine waking up on a Saturday in your European city and booking a quick weekend getaway. A few days ago, I decided to visit Munich. A couple of hours later, I was in a different country, experiencing a completely different culture. We wandered through markets, enjoyed beer gardens, and savored pretzels. The entire round-trip cost less than $200. This type of spontaneous travel is so easy here—there’s no need for months of planning.
The Mediterranean Summer You’ve Always Dreamed Of
Long lunches by the sea, golden sunsets over historic city skylines, and endless conversation under twinkling lights. This is a typical Mediterranean summer in places like Greece, Spain, and Portugal. And the best part? These dreamy destinations are just a short flight away, making them easily accessible whenever you need a quick escape.
Christmas Markets & Fairytale Winters
There’s nothing like wandering through a centuries-old Christmas market, sipping mulled wine as snow falls softly around you. The holiday season in Europe is all about cozy traditions—twinkling lights, handmade crafts, and the smell of roasted chestnuts. No malls or over-commercialization—just timeless holiday cheer that makes it feel like you’re in a movie.
You’re Never Rushed Out of a Café or Restaurant
Here, dining is an experience. You can sit for hours, savoring your meal and enjoying the conversation without anyone rushing you. And with no tipping culture, there’s no awkward math to figure out when the bill comes. Meals aren’t just about eating—they’re about enjoying life in the moment.
Your Life Is More About Experiences, Less About Stuff
Instead of the usual shopping malls, you could spend your time picking up fresh produce at local markets and enjoying picnics by the Seine. People walk or bike everywhere, and there’s a noticeable shift in the way people approach life. It’s less about material possessions and more about living well, which leads to a quieter, happier existence.
Public Transport Is an Experience, Not a Hassle
Public transport in Europe is an experience in itself, whether it’s a high-speed train or a local metro. You could take the time to read your book, catch up on messages, or simply gaze out at the passing countryside or beautiful architecture. It’s a relaxing, enjoyable part of daily life here.
Now, take a moment and imagine yourself stepping outside your flat in Florence on a crisp autumn morning. The air smells of espresso, and the scent of fresh pastries fills the air. As you walk past Renaissance-era buildings, you make your way to a sunlit piazza. You sit on a stone bench with your cappuccino and realize—this is your life now.
This is not just for the rich or travel bloggers. It’s for anyone who wants to take the leap and build a life filled with beauty, purpose, and adventure.
